Moment of Fame

Have you ever wondered what kind of face you would make if you happened to be that person broadcast on the big screen during a sporting event?

I think my expression matched my hat. Ridiculous. Thanks to Audrey for having her camera ready!

On Saturday I attended my second football game at the national stadium: Rwanda v. Egypt. Two places where I've lived. After quite the pat-down and being required to take a picture of the ground (perhaps to prove my camera was not a weapon?) we made it through the crowd and into the stadium, where I was disappointed to discover that the president was not in attendance. Our seats were in his section.

Rwanda was not victorious, but I nevertheless enjoyed the experience. I sat between a boisterous Rwandan friend (at least for the first half until his voice faded) and a boisterous Egyptian stranger (who I couldn't understand most of the time because his commentary was in Arabic). They discussed players, critiqued the ref, went crazy with every shot on goal, and shook hands amicably at the end. The students were amused by watching me shrink in my seat to avoid their flailing arms at particularly passionate moments.

Not sure if Amavubi (Rwanda's national team) will make it to World Cup 2010, but I'm rooting for them.
